1993 Hyundai Elantra problems

Verdict · NHTSA data

One of the years to avoid

The 1993 Hyundai Elantra carries two red flags at once: 39 consumer complaints filed with NHTSA and an open NHTSA defect investigation (subject: REAR SUSPENSION FAILURE). It is one of the Elantra years to avoid.

No single system dominates the record — complaints spread across engine (8), brakes (7), and transmission (5), which usually points to general build quality rather than one defect.
