Defect

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2023-2025 VNR Electric trucks. The high voltage battery may contain loose hardware, which can create a short circuit inside the battery cells.

Consequence

A high voltage battery that short circuits increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the batteries, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 24, 2025. Owner letters will be mailed on or before August 25, 2025, for the additional vehicles added on July 22, 2025. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Defect

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2020-2025 VN, VAH, VHD and VNRE trucks, equipped with Bendix EC80 Advanced Electronic Control Units (ECU). Electrical noise and low signal to the power line carrier may cause the ECU to incorrectly process commands or stop working.

Consequence

Safety systems that depend on the ECU (Automatic Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Stability Control, Active Cruise Control, and Collison Mitigation System) may have diminished or lost functionality, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will reprogram the ECU software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 9, 2024. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo Truck's number for this recall is RVXX2409.

Defect

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2020-2024 VNR Electric vehicles. The rivnut threaded inserts inside the high-voltage battery may be over-tightened and break, which could result in a short circuit.

Consequence

An electrical short circuit increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the batteries, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed September 15, 2023. Owners will receive a second notice once remedy becomes available. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2308.

Defect

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2019-2023 VNR Electric vehicles. The power cables that connect to the windscreen heater relay may have a loose connection and cause the relay to fail.

Consequence

A relay that fails in the closed position will continue to power the cabin heater, overheating the relay and increasing the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Dealers will tighten the power cable to relay connections, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed August 4, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks' number for this recall is RVXX2306.

Defect

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2019-2023 VNRE battery electric trucks. The cabin heater relay may fail, causing the coolant heater to overheat.

Consequence

A coolant heater that overheats can increase the risk of fire.

Remedy

Dealers will update the software for the Hybrid Powertrain Control Unit and Instrument Cluster, and install replacement relays, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed March 16, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo Trucks number for this recall is RVXX2301.

Defect

Volvo Trucks North America (Volvo Trucks) is recalling certain 2022-2023 VNRE vehicles. The coolant line in the high voltage battery pack may not be fully seated and locked, which can result in the loss of coolant and an electrical short circuit.

Consequence

A battery short circuit increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Volvo will inspect the battery packs, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The affected vehicles are within the manufacturer's control and therefore no owner letters will be mailed. Owners may contact Volvo Trucks' customer service at 1-800-528-6586.
