2020 Ram Promaster problems

Verdict · NHTSA data

A typical year for this model

The 2020 Ram Promaster is a recall-heavy year with an otherwise ordinary complaint record: 5 NHTSA recall campaigns apply, yet its 60 owner complaints run below the Promaster median. The recalls matter more than the complaint count here — verify every campaign was completed before buying.

No single system dominates the record — complaints spread across driver assistance (11), transmission (10), and other (9), which usually points to general build quality rather than one defect.

The rear backup camera is intermediate and does NOT provide a visible image 90% of the time. When the vehicle is in reverse the display reports a message, "Camera System Unavailable". The van doesn't have rear or side windows and makes it nearly impossible to safely backup the vehicle.
